Alicia’s Greatest Videos (Thus Far)
In anticipation for the New Day video from Alicia Keys, I thought I would share two of my favorite Alicia songs & videos. I don’t know which video or which song I love more. So, let’s break it down….
You Don’t Know My Name: The Song
Oh Lord, what can be said about it? It’s breathtakingly smooth and throws us back to an era where music encompassed life to the fullest. If you transported yourself back 30 or 40 years ago to Harlem, it would be on every jukebox in every little joint. And when she goes on “I swear to my Mother & Father it feels like you don’t know my name”. Pure soul….
You Don’t Know My Name: The Video
Oh Lord, not only did she make me want a leather trench coat, she also made me fall in love with Yasiin Bey, then known as Mos Def. Who can’t feel the excitement she feels waiting for Mos to show up? What girl is above being in love with one of the most brilliant lyricists and minds of our time? ( I know, he was playing someone else in the video, but I like to think he’s playing himself)
Unthinkable (I’m Ready): The Song
“You give me a feeling that I’ve never felt before, and I deserve it, I know I deserve it” Enough said….
Unthinkable I’m Ready): The Video
Another great cinematic video from Alicia Keys. Chad Michael Murray is perfect in it. He and Alicia glide through eras of American history flawlessy. Also, here’s a little tidbit for you, Alicia’s mother in the video, Adina Porter, also plays Tara’s mother (Lettie Mae Thorton) in True Blood. Also, Alicia looks amazing throughout every decade. With regards to interracial relationships, we often see white women with black men, but to see the reverse is really exciting. Who can’t feel the butterflies in their stomachs as you watch Alicia and Chad’s secret romance?
I can’t wait for the next Amazing Alicia Keys Video!
