TLC Exudes Ultimate Girl Power
I want to share my love of TLC, the ulitimate girl group. I have loved them since I was too young to even know what their safe sex campaign even really meant. I loved the bright colors they were, loved the harmony of all their very different styles and love the memories that they play a soundtrack to. The loss of Lisa Lopez has forever changed their dynamic yet the music they supplied and created together has been a great foundation for so many young girls everywhere, shaping them into more confident young women. If you don’t believe me, go listen to “Unpretty”. Even now, as an adult, I still connect to those lyrics. My girlfriends and I would play their music and start to come to the realization that, you know what? We don’t need boys to tell us that we’re amazing, we’re amazing already! And we’re amazing the way we are! If you don’t think this is a big deal, then think again. We live in a world saturated with false images of what women should look like, act like, what we should like to eat, how our hair should look, to just name a few; to the point where it is dizzying beyond belief . You lose track of who you are to try and conform to all of these ridiculous standards. If there were a list of songs, especially today, where young women are forcing themselves to grow up far to quickly, for them to listen to , “Unpretty” should be the first selection!
This is an adore post. T-Boz, Left-Eye and Chilli have always been beautiful, fearless and showing us that young women can do it all. We can succeed too. And we don’t need to sell ourselves out to do so! You can validate YOURSELF, you don’t need someone to do it for you! Ladies, stand up!
